Thursday, 14 May 2026 – The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr William Fayia Sellu, has honoured retired Superintendent of Police and Paramount Chief, Sanda Sorie Jim Abu Sankoh V, popularly known as Jiminato, for his exemplary voluntary service in lecturing police recruits at the Samu Training Campus on tactics, weapon handling, discipline, and professional policing.
IGP Sellu recognised the retired police officer and Paramount Chief for his diligent and dedicated service to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), as well as his willingness to share his vast policing experience with recruits currently undergoing Advanced Public Order Training at the Samu Campus.
The Police Chief noted that Chief Sankoh’s wealth of experience, acquired through both local and international training, would significantly enhance the knowledge, professionalism, and operational readiness of the recruits. He further encouraged other retired senior police officers from various policing backgrounds to emulate the exemplary gesture demonstrated by Chief Sankoh by contributing to the training and character development of young police officers.
In his response, retired Superintendent of Police and Paramount Chief, Sanda Sorie Jim Abu Sankoh V, stated that he joined the Sierra Leone Police in 1985 and served the Force diligently for 39 years before retiring. He explained that he rose through the ranks and, following his retirement, was later crowned Paramount Chief of Sanda Magbolontho Chiefdom in Karene District in 2025.
Chief Sankoh expressed appreciation for the honour bestowed upon him by the IGP and the Executive Management Board of the SLP, noting that he felt deeply privileged and proud to have served through the ranks of the Sierra Leone Police.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continue rendering voluntary service to the SLP whenever called upon, describing it as his way of giving back to the institution and the community. He also encouraged the police recruits to remain disciplined, focused, and committed throughout their rigorous training programme, emphasising that hard work and dedication always yield positive results.
