Karene District, Sierra Leone – 9 May 2026 – In a bid to strengthen community-oriented policing and enhance security cooperation within Karene District, the Local Unit Commander (LUC) of Kamakwie Division, Superintendent John S. Koroma, together with his team, paid a courtesy visit to key traditional authorities and stakeholders in Sanda Magbolontho Chiefdom.
The engagement, which took place at Gbogodo Village on Saturday, 9 May 2026, formed part of ongoing efforts by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to foster stronger collaboration with local communities, improve police visibility, and promote peace and security across the district.
During the visit, Superintendent Koroma and his delegation met with the Paramount Chief of Sanda Magbolontho Chiefdom, retired Superintendent Sanda Sorie Jim Abu Sankoh Kintho V, and jointly held discussions with the Senior District Officer, Mr Abdulai Koroma, focusing on strategies aimed at improving police civilian relationship and crime fighting strateties.
Addressing community members and stakeholders, Superintendent Koroma emphasised the importance of trust, cooperation, and information sharing between the police and the public in tackling security challenges. He called for total collaboration and mutual understanding between the police and the communities they serve.
The LUC further encouraged stakeholders to establish a Local Policing Partnership Board to support the work of the police and strengthen community participation in maintaining law and order.
He also urged residents to continue promoting peace and sanity within the chiefdom and to work closely with the police in addressing security concerns.
The Coordinator of the Office of National Security (ONS) in Karene District, Mr Jacob Santigie Conteh, and Mr George Brima, Community Health Officer attached to the Sendugu Health Centre, also addressed the gathering. Both speakers reiterated the importance of reducing maternal mortality and strongly discouraged home deliveries, encouraging pregnant women to seek medical attention at recognised health facilities.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional authorities, Paramount Chief , Retired Superintendent of Police Sanda Sorie Jim Abu Sankoh Kintho V proposed the introduction of bye-laws aimed at ensuring that pregnant women give birth at health centres in order to safeguard maternal and child health within the chiefdom.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to supporting both community security initiatives and healthcare awareness programmes in the district.
