HASTINGS, Sierra Leone — A major milestone has been achieved at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA), Hastings Campus, with the ongoing construction of a solar-powered borehole aimed at providing a reliable and sustainable water supply for police personnel.
The initiative was conceived following a recent visit by the Inspector General of Police to the academy, where he assessed the state of existing facilities. During the visit, the Commandant highlighted the acute water challenges facing the institution, noting that both recruits and staff continue to experience difficulties in accessing a consistent and adequate water supply.
In response to these concerns, the Inspector General of Police, together with the Executive Management Board of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), initiated the borehole project as part of ongoing efforts to improve personnel welfare and enhance the training environment at the academy.
The project is being executed by JEG Drilling Company, a Freetown-based firm, and is expected to significantly improve access to clean and safe water for recruits, staff and other personnel at SILEA.
Upon completion, the solar-powered facility will enhance water availability across the campus, improve living conditions, and support the effective delivery of training programmes.
This development underscores the commitment of the Sierra Leone Police leadership to investing in infrastructure development and promoting the welfare of personnel within its training institutions.
